The Negroni.
Question for you guys:
When you are a toddler and your grandma carries you outside and fills a highball glass with the fresh snow from the top of the fountain in the garden and then pours sugar and Campari on that snow and gives it to you to eat, which would you think your favorite drink in the whole cocktail universe is going to be?
Fast forward a few years now and the woman is playing cards with her girlfriends from the days back in East Africa, smoking way too many cigarettes and slinging back gin like it was pop.
A few more years in the future and your uncle picks up a liking to red Martini vermouth on the rocks, sometimes with a splash of Campari.
Well that 1/1/1 formula has been with me since the beginning and Negroni is,as a matter of fact, a part of my upbringing and of what I am.
In all its variations and derivates even though I have a soft spot for a Boulevardier made with the extra serving of a dense, warm, syrupy bourbon.
PS I prefer working man's gins like Beefeater and Gordon's, perhaps Tanqueray and I don't smoke cigars anymore since I found good Toscano immensely more satisfying ( talking about myself, of course).
